Dynamics β‰  Dynamics: How to recognise real Dynamics professionals - and where to find them

Dynamics 365 Recruiting

Dynamics - one name, four products

When candidates write "Microsoft Dynamics" on their CV, this is often not very meaningful. This is because the term "Dynamics" covers four different product worlds - each with their own role profiles, skills and programming languages. Dynamics 365 Recruiting

Product Formerly known as Target group Typical skills
Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O) AX (Axapta) Large companies X++, Supply Chain Mgmt, Project Ops
Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) NAV / Navision Middle class AL, Visual Studio Code, Docker
Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CE) Dynamics CRM Sales/Service Power Apps, Dataverse, JavaScript
Power Platform Independent, but closely linked Low-code platform
Power Automate, Power BI, Model-driven Apps

πŸ‘‰ Many candidates write AX, NAV, CE, Power Apps or module names in their profiles - but not "Dynamics". If you don't know these terms, you'll miss out on the best people.

The most common sourcing mistakes

❌ Error #1: "Search for "Microsoft Dynamics Developer
β†’ Far too broad. Developers specialise in AL (BC), X++ (F&O) or Power Fx (CE). You need these terms!

❌ Error #2: "Write "Dynamics CRM
β†’ Outdated. Today it's called "Customer Engagement". Anyone who still has "CRM" in their title is often no longer up to date.

❌ Error #3: Do not specify ERP consulting
β†’ Candidates write: "Trade & Logistics", "Finance", "Production", not "ERP Consultant".

❌ Error #4: Ignore cloud readiness
β†’ Those still working with C/AL are in on-prem environments. Those with AL, Docker and Azure DevOps are cloud-ready.

How to find real Dynamics experts - step by step

Here we not only show you, where you can search - but also like. Many recruiters know that GitHub or events are helpful, but not how to use them effectively. So here we go:

πŸ”§ 1. GitHub - the underestimated gold field for developers

What you will find there:
Many Dynamics developers (especially in the Business Central or Power Platform area) share their code, prototypes, extensions or tools on GitHub - often as private projects or for demos for customers.

This is how you proceed:

  1. Go to https://github.com/search

  2. Use these queries:

    • For Business Central (BC):

      languageAL filename:app.json

β†’ Hits = AL developers who work with the current BC stack.

    • For Customer Engagement / Power Platform:

      "power apps" extension:.msapp OR "dataverse"

β†’ Typical for CE and Power Platform developers.

Tip: Filter by "Recently updated" - to find active people. The top profiles are often visible without LinkedIn.

πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈ 2. X-Ray Search on LinkedIn - more targeted than the recruiter account

What you will find there:
Not all top candidates can be found directly via LinkedIn Recruiter. X-Ray via Google will often give you more accurate results.

This is how it works:
In Google:

site:linkedin.com/in ("Business Central" OR "D365" OR "F&O") ("Consultant" OR "Architect" OR "Developer")

Refine with:

  • "X++" for F&O

  • "AL language" for BC

  • "Dataverse" for CE

  • "Docker" or "Azure DevOps" for modern working methods

Pay attention: Many do not write "Microsoft Dynamics", but only module or project names. That's why these additional terms are so important!

πŸ’‘ 3. scrape conferences - your shortcut to top experts

What does scrape mean?
Scraping is the targeted extraction of publicly visible information - e.g. from participant lists, speaker pages or event pages. You don't need a tool - copy & paste is often enough.

Top sources for Dynamics professionals:

  • Directions EMEA (BC/NAV)

  • DynamicsCon (F&O, CE, Power Platform)

  • Power Platform Conference

  • eXtreme365

This is how you do it:

  1. Search on Google:
    site:directions4partners.com speaker list 2024
    site:dynamicscon.com speakers

  2. Open the speaker/participant pages.

  3. Note names, titles, companies β†’ then search on LinkedIn or GitHub.

Why it works:
Those who speak or take part in these events are almost always at the cutting edge of technology and deep in the subject. Above all, you will also find the "hidden champions" there - senior consultants who have never been actively sought after.

You can read this from the CV

Even without GitHub or events: If you read CVs carefully, you will quickly recognise the real Dynamics professionals. Here are some typical clues:

Term in CV Meaning
"X++" Developer:in for Finance & Operations
"AL language", "app.json" Developer:in for Business Central
"Trade & Logistics", "Finance" Module consulting, mostly F&O
"Canvas app", "Model-driven app" Power Platform / CE
"Docker", "Azure DevOps", "Extension" Modern cloud environment

Dynamics sourcing needs more than keywords

Microsoft Dynamics is not a firmly defined product. If you want to source successfully here, you need:

  • Technical understanding of the platforms

  • Clarity about skills and programming languages

  • The ability to read between the lines

  • Creative ways to find candidates (GitHub, conferences, X-Ray)
